While AI can assist with mechanical aspects of writing (e.g. syntax, grammar, drafts) it lacks contextual understanding, emotional capacity, and symbolic reasoning—features fundamental to metaphor, idiom, and affective literary work. Creative writing arises from embodied, emotional, and collaborative experiences, often resisting convention and embracing contradiction. AI’s in ability to feel, remember or genuinely imagine disqualifies it from the deeper functions of literary meaning-making, which require empathy, cultural awareness, and radical alterity. It is possible to imagine a dystopian future where AI oversteps its ethical boundaries, weaponized by capitalism and detached from human values. It is important to retain writing as a transformative crossing—from experience to expression—rejecting the idea that AI can replicate this. Ultimately, human creativity is irreducibly plural, ethically situated and inherently resistant to technological substitution.
