The hand is the end point of the vasculature of the upper extremity. Though it has redundant inflow and outflow, the vessels are small compared to more proximal structures and can easily be damaged during surgery and due to other disease processes. Furthermore, they are susceptible to systemic conditions, with vascular presentations often the first sign of more insidious disease.
