Analyzing Social Demands on Urban Parks in Goiânia, Brazil
摘要
Among the benefits of urban green infrastructure cited in scientific studies are promoting biodiversity, controlling temperature and humidity, helping to combat pollution, being an important element of social cohesion, public space for the practice of physical activities, providing leisure at very low cost, helping relieve stress, playing pedagogical role, and raising awareness among the population. However, beyond doubt distribution of these urban green spaces does not follow environmental justice logic, providing unequal access to the population, different levels of infrastructure and maintenance throughout the urban territory. As means to better comprehend inhabitants demands in accessing the urban green spaces, making use of it and feeling safe in it, data must be gathered and analyzed for a variety of municipalities and cultural behaviors. For that purpose, investigating the current situation of the green infrastructure and singular requirements of the population of Goiânia (Brazil), questionnaires were applied using the online platform Google Forms. Participants respond 24 questions regarding accessibility, safety, infrastructure and use of urban parks. As a result, 168 responses were obtained and examined. Majority of participants informed visiting parks on weekends or occasionally, choosing the park which is the closest to home, traveling more than 2 km, and using private cars to access parks. To be in contact with nature, running, resting, taking the kids to playgrounds and walking the pets were the park activities mentioned the most. The presence of people, public lighting, and presence of police were the items chosen the most as in what makes one feels safe in an urban park, 95% of respondents feel safer during the day rather during the night. The analysis of the above-mentioned results provides guiding for the urban green infrastructure planning in the city of Goiânia, makes possible the comparison with results worldwide, enhancing the researchers and police makers understanding on the subject.
