This chapter investigates factors associated with internet and social media use among older adults aged 65 years or older in China, drawing on data from the China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey (CLASS). Utilizing nationally representative data from 2020, the study explores demographic, socioeconomic, familial, health, and attitudinal correlates of digital engagement. Multivariable logistic regression analyses reveal that younger age, higher education, urban residence, good health, and positive perceptions of internet utility are positively associated with internet and social media use. Interestingly, socioeconomic factors largely mediate urban-rural and gender disparities, while attitudinal variables such as views on aging show diminished influence when controlling for other factors. The study also identifies predictors of new internet adoption between 2018 and 2020, highlighting the significance of education, health, and attitudes toward aging. These findings underscore the need for policies that address structural inequalities and promote inclusive digital engagement among China’s rapidly aging population.

摘要
