The Concept and Operation of Autonomous Vehicles
摘要
Autonomous driving systems, encompassing both semi-autonomous and fully autonomous vehicles, establish the foundational context for servitisation and digital business models. This chapter aims to elucidate the concept of an autonomous vehicle while recognising its inherent complexity. Autonomous vehicles are classified within the subfield of artificial intelligence; consequently, this chapter also addresses the notion of ‘artificial intelligence.’ In light of the functions performed via artificial intelligence, this chapter further investigates the concept of ‘artificial agent’ as well as the categorisation of artificial agents. In addition to examining the notion of ‘autonomous vehicle,’ this chapter delineates a classification of autonomous vehicles based on their degree of autonomy in road traffic, specifically concerning the exclusion of the human driver from the operation of such vehicles. Furthermore, this chapter evaluates the functionality of an autonomous vehicle and the principles underlying the programming of driving algorithms, with particular emphasis on safeguarding goods in relation to the operation of an autonomous vehicle.
