Smart Door Control System for Enhanced Accessibility in Affordable Housing
摘要
This paper details developing and implementing a smart door control system to improve accessibility for wheelchair users in affordable housing in Mexico. The system integrates detection cameras, Arduino-controlled mechanical arms, and Bluetooth connectivity to automate door operations via a mobile application built on Adalo. The prototype has undergone several iterations to address connectivity and detection accuracy issues. Implementation in social housing revealed significant challenges, such as the high cost of electronic components and the necessity for structural modifications in homes with limited space. Future efforts will focus on reducing component costs, enhancing connectivity and detection capabilities, collaborating with architects for better housing design, expanding system functionalities, and strengthening user training and support. These initiatives are crucial for overcoming financial and structural barriers, ensuring broader and sustainable system adoption, and ultimately enhancing the quality of life for individuals with reduced mobility.
