From Regulations to Compliance: Adapting a Learning Factory to Train SMEs on Sustainability Regulations
摘要
With increasing demands from sustainability regulations such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the EU Taxonomy, manufacturing companies, especially large ones, must understand, comply and implement these complex frameworks. While most regulations primarily target large corporations, the requirements will inevitably extend directly or indirectly to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), making compliance essential. However, individuals responsible for regulatory compliance in SMEs often lack access to specialized training. Learning factories (LFs) are the current state of the art for industrial technical training but remain largely unexplored for transfer of regulatory knowledge. This paper explores how LFs can be used to teach SME decision-makers about sustainability regulations. The research focuses on how LFs can be optimized to effectively convey the complexities of regulatory frameworks and what barriers must be addressed to adapt these environments for regulatory training. Through literature research and a structured methodology for expanding LFs, the authors identify the technological and didactic requirements necessary for LFs to address regulatory training. The application of this approach to CSRD training is presented, with an outline of a potential agenda, including training modules and didactic methods. Overall, LFs show promising potential for regulatory training, but further modifications are necessary to address the challenges of complex sustainability frameworks. Future research will demonstrate and validate this approach, to determine the effectiveness of this approach to train decision-makers in regulatory aspects, to quantify their feedback and to propose any adjustments.
