Self-sustainable Platform for Advanced Monitoring of Meteorological and Seismic Parameters at the Universidad Técnica de Ambato
摘要
The Technical University of Ambato faces a significant challenge due to the lack of accurate and up-to-date data on meteorological and seismic conditions, which puts at risk the safety of the campus and its community. The absence of an adequate monitoring system could delay the response to critical events such as storms and earthquakes, increasing vulnerability to natural disasters and complicating resource management and planning in emergency situations. To address these issues, a self-sustainable control and monitoring system was developed with the aim of recording meteorological parameters and seismic activity in real time. The weather station was strategically installed on campus to avoid the influence of microclimates. This weather station is connected to the Wunderground platform, which allows the automatic extraction of data through an API. This data is stored in a MySQL database and visualized in real time using Grafana, which also triggers alerts when critical conditions are detected. This project has established a robust and efficient infrastructure that enhances safety and risk management at the Technical University of Ambato. Additionally, the methodology and technologies employed can serve as a replicable model for future similar projects.
