Who Is the Human Being? Exploring a Question Without an Answer
摘要
Only recently has the question, ‘who is the human being?’ become a part of human reflection and self-understanding. There is no answer to it! Raising the question is already answering it. For human being is the answer, in the same way as he is the question. Ensuing the first, a second question came up. No longer human being as ontologically one and undifferentiated in itself, no longer ‘who is the human being’, but ‘what is it?’ What human being is, was answered in successive narratives, from mythologies, where the Gods gave the human being its place in the different epochs, where individualities appeared as landmarks in a continuing process of self-exploration. In the Western narrative, individualities as Aristotle, Pico della Mirandola, Kant, and others contributed to this inquiry, each opening a window on how to make those two questions (who-what) meet. It was Rudolf Steiner who introduced the faculty of human being to think the possible as a new category of human cognition. In our times, the movement gathering around the Anthropocene, for the first time surpassed the boundaries of nations and people. Are we at the brink of a new narrative?
