This research delves into the relationship between the architecture of the city and cultural identity; extending the previous research that covered the impact of local culture in designing the residential building, this research aims to broaden the understanding by focusing on the city as a cultural entity, and how the Architecture reflects the identity considering the case of Amman the capital city of Jordan. A theoretical framework using a literature review elucidates the connection between Architecture and cultural identity, to emphasize that the city’s content is part of its cultural identity, and the architecture is the main part of this content. The study employs qualitative and quantitative methodologies via case study analysis to examine architectural typologies and the relationship between architecture, urban planning, and historical narratives. Through this multi-dimensional approach, cultural identity enhances architectural environments. The results of this research reveal a rich tapestry of cultural expressions embedded within Amman’s architectural fabric, and each district in Amman identifies distinct typologies that serve as manifestations of cultural identity, reflecting historical legacies, social practices, and collective memory. Furthermore, the analysis elucidates how people can maintain external effects to adjust the time, place, and local culture in architectural outlook by providing several architectural examples designed by one Jordanian architect. This research underscores the significance of cultural identity in shaping the city’s architecture to enhance the understanding of the interrelations between culture and the built environment at the city level.

摘要
