In order to overcome the pitfalls and ailments of the current growth-centric paradigm (as discussed in Chapter 2 ), some interesting de-growth or post-growth approaches have been advanced. This chapter provides a detailed account of some of these approaches and critically examines the feasibility of adopting these approaches as development models. GDP-centred growth approaches have been attracting a lot of flak, especially after the 1990s when most of the developing countries embarked on economic reforms. The purpose and objective of these reforms was to enhance growth performance and catch up with the ‘so-called’ developed economies.
