Artificial Intelligence in Mobile Learning: Applications, Benefits, and Challenges

The enhancement of mobile learning has been advanced by artificial intelligence (AI) enabling personalization, access, and overall productivity of the education system. This paper highlights the application of AI within mobile learning, while discussing its advantages to students and teachers, as well as the obstacles that come with its application. The review covers AI-based tools, including, but not limited to, intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive polymorphic learning apps, and even performance-based content chatbots. Furthermore, AI can be utilized in educational institutions to perform mundane administrative tasks. This enables educators to focus on the more pertinent areas of student learning. The integration of AI with mobile learning technology is exceptionally engaging within the learning process, aids students with disabilities, and allows for the monitoring of educational activities in real time. Studies have shown that the use of AI in adaptive learning platforms can greatly enhance the performance of learners due to their customized design. While there are positive outcomes the proposed systems lead to, there are numerous negative consequences AI-powered systems entail, including misuse of algorithms and infringement on users’ privacy. Alongside these challenges is the concern of teachers’ education on the application of AI in the learning process. The responsible use of AI, including compliance with ethical norms, is essential to enhancing its potential for improving education. Despite challenges, the future of using AI in mobile learning is promising. Continuous advances in AI technology, combined with its increasing penetration into educational institutions, suggest that mobile learning will become smarter, more effective, and more accessible in the coming years.
