Rethinking the Ocean: Conceptual Engineering for the Next 10,000 Years
摘要
The ocean constitutes an interesting case study for conceptual negotiation and reconceptualization, in view of its otherness, of the current pressure exerted by anthropic activities on many aspects of oceanic status and life, of new, emerging knowledge about its physical and biological nature, and in particular in view of the need to look for and plan actions on a long time span, measured not in decades, but in centuries and millennia. The present contribution analyzes existing conceptualizations of the ocean that in the current context lean towards misconceptions, and in its programmatic part proposes reconceptualizations that can eventually inform public policies.
