Leveraging Business Analytics in Consulting & the Role of AI in the Future of Consulting

Like every industry today, the consulting industry is undergoing a profound transformation as advances in business analytics and AI change knowledge management, streamline decision-making processes, and reshape how consultants deliver value to clients. The introduction of large language models (LLMs), generative AI (GenAI), and agentic AI—artificial intelligence (AI) systems capable of autonomous decision-making without direct human intervention—have enhanced traditional data-driven approaches. These developments promise faster, more efficient decision-making but also raise significant ethical, regulatory, and operational concerns including accountability, bias, compliance, and skills gap issues that affect competitiveness and trust. This paper explores (1) the role of business analytics in consulting, (2) traditional business analytics consulting methodologies, (3) the outlook for the consulting field with the advent of LLMs, GenAI, and agentic AI, and (4) challenges and ethical implications surrounding the responsible use of these powerful technologies by consultants and their clients.
