Studies on the history of the Latin American worker movement have generally paid scant attention to the influence the international situation exercised over the situation of the working class. Although internal conditions undoubtedly shape the capital–labor relationship of every nation, we believe working-class history cannot be fully grasped without expanding our view beyond narrow national confines.
