Progress in Philosophy
摘要
Closely related to the question of utility of philosophy is that of progress in philosophy. Several analytic philosophers claim that philosophy makes no progress, but this chapter argues that their arguments are not valid. On the other hand, some analytic philosophers claim that philosophy makes progress, but in the wrong sense of progress. Alternatively, the chapter argues that philosophy makes progress for the same reason for which it is useful, that is, because it can open new ways to knowledge and lead to the birth of new sciences.
