Developing the view that philosophy is acquisition of knowledge also requires answering the question: What is perception? A widely held view is that perception is a passive process, determined entirely by the features of the external world, but this view is not valid. Alternatively, this chapter argues that perception is an active process because, like all knowledge, perception is problem solving by the analytic method.
