Extrusion in the extrusion-based deposition process implies extrusion of material in a continuous shaped form. The shaping of the material after it is out from a nozzle and before it reaches a substrate gives the process its name. The shaping is not solely due to a nozzle but due to materials, temperature, environmental conditions, applied force, etc. But the role of the nozzle has more ability to separate extrusion-based deposition from other AM processes.
