Advantage: Cause and Perspective
摘要
What if a composite material is developed by AM? Is this an advantage? Consider, for example, two nozzles are used; one supplies steel powder, and the other supplies ceramic. When they meet at a substrate during and after processing by a beam, they become a steel-ceramic composite. The development of a composite is an advantage, but this advantage is not exclusive to AM. The development does not come from AM’s ability, i.e., layer making. It is developed because the beam can convert a mixture of different powders into a composite. The beam is part of an AM system, but it can be part of any system, such as welding, cutting, hardening, etc. Therefore, what a beam does cannot be the advantage of a system unless all the advantages of the beam give the exclusive advantage of the system.
