The classification of non-beam solid deposition is given. Deposition processes based on arc or heater come as an alternative to beam-based deposition, as they do not use expensive beams and can melt higher melting point materials. But they have to deal with melting-induced problems: porosity, residual stress, cracks, anisotropy, partial evaporation, etc. Processes based on cold spray or friction do not depend on melting and are, therefore, free from such problems. Besides, there are processes based on filament extrusion, which melt polymers and, therefore, need a heater and not an arc or beam.
