Binding Mechanism: Misnomer

There are various examples where complete melting of feedstock has not taken place, whether they belong to liquid phase sintering (LPS) or full melting. Checking the processed material just after the processing and before consolidation will clarify. The processed material looks like it is a mixture of liquid and unmelted solid. It gives a false impression that the presence of liquid and solid automatically implies that LPS has taken place. LPS holds good only when the liquid is responsible for giving rise to a structure made up of solid particles by holding the solid particles. This is possible only when the majority of the structure is made up of solid and the liquid is distributed well enough. This is not possible when the majority of the structure is made up of liquid and the solid is in the minority. Because when the liquid is in the majority, there are not enough solid particles for it to hold and make the structure. The structure is then made not because liquid binds solid particles, but because the solidification of the liquid takes place. The solidification of the liquid does not necessarily consist of solid particles. Where the solidification consists of solid particles, the solidification does not necessarily bind two solid particles but traps each single solid particle.
