Support Structure: Difficulty in PBF
摘要
A bed acts as a support structure (SS) in powder bed fusion (PBF), which allows polymers more than metals or ceramics to avoid SS because polymers are lighter than metals and ceramics. Due to the presence of bed as SS, PBF, instead of the deposition process, gives more opportunity to avoid SS. However, there are difficulties that arise when robust support is required. Powder needs to provide the support but caves in when a heavy section is built. Besides, it cannot let form a smooth underneath surface. A thin section does not require a support irrespective of the orientation, but the support can be used in the horizontal orientation.
