Repair and Refurbishment
摘要
The aim of repair is to bring a damaged part to its original condition, while the aim of refurbishment is to improve a damaged part and make it better than its original condition in some or all respects. Repair intends to match the material, property, and design of a damaged part to those of an original part after repair, so a damaged part regains its properties and shape that existed before damage. Therefore, a new material is not sought to make up the material lost due to damage. There is no search for a repairing technique that can furnish better property than that of an original part. Besides, a new design is not sought to improve functions. Refurbishment brings a change, which means there must be a change in design, property, or material, causing a change in the characteristics of an original part. Therefore, it is considered an opportunity to make the best out of a damaged part; conveying damage is not the start of its devaluation. If repair aims at maintaining the status quo, refurbishment breaks it.
