Post-Processing Does Not Slow AM Process

Post-processing is not the reason for a process to be slow because post-process comes after the process ends. Having an option for post-processing can and cannot expedite the process. It can expedite in some cases. For example, if a part when made in ten hours has a fine finish and when made in two hours has a high surface roughness, the high roughness can change to a fine finish if there is an option for post-processing (e.g., fine machining). It is better to make a part in two hours instead of ten hours and opt for post-processing. If post-processing takes one hour, seven hours will be saved to make a part having a fine finish. Post-processing does not help know how much the process was slow. Its slowness was hidden because the process was not utilized to work for eight hours. AM is for fast production; the process time for two instead of eight hours is preferred. But the option for a two-hour process plus a one-hour post-process shows the post-process was needed because the process was not good enough to give the required surface finish. It implies that the process has a demerit, which requires a post-process.
