Healing Justice: The Role of Integrative Health Equity in Providing Inclusive Care for Incarcerated Populations
摘要
This chapter explores how healing justice and integrative health equity intersect to transform the landscape of care within carceral systems. Grounded in the lived experiences of incarcerated practitioners and informed by the principles of trauma-informed yoga, this chapter examines how accessible, culturally responsive, and holistic healing modalities can serve as powerful interventions for populations historically marginalized and medically neglected. Drawing from qualitative narratives, it highlights how breathwork, mindfulness, movement, and relational care support physical, mental, and spiritual well-being behind bars. The chapter interrogates structural inequities in correctional healthcare and offers a vision of inclusive care that centers dignity, agency, and self-healing. It positions integrative health not as a luxury, but as a necessary strategy in dismantling systemic harm and cultivating resilience, especially among communities disproportionately impacted by incarceration. Through the lens of healing justice, this chapter asserts that wellness must be a collective right—reclaimed, reimagined, and returned to those whom the system has long excluded.
