In this article, we review the most significant energy transformations/changes that took place in the city of Jerada in the eastern part of Morocco, especially with regard to the issue of electricity production and solar energy, as this transformation has become a trajectory pursued by the local charged authorities, considering this transition to renewable energies, as an alternative option to achieve local development and decrease unemployment. The research aims the move towards comprehensive solutions for sustainable development through renewable energy production, particularly solar energy, in order to achieve sustainable local development that meets all the immediate needs of individuals while preserving intergenerational within clean environmental rights, focusing on projects that It takes as its priority the environmental and social dimensions resulting from this transformation, especially after the closure of coal mines at the beginning of the millennium. The analysis delineates key infrastructural challenges compromising the city and its broader regional context, exploring the potential mechanisms for overcoming structural obstacles impeding energy transformation. Moreover, the paper critically assesses the local community’s role in fostering awareness and facilitating the successful implementation of renewable energy initiatives in the urban landscape of the city.
