Developing Sustainable AI: Policies, Strategies, and Practical Applications

In recent times, artificial Intelligence has grown extensively to deliver numerous advantages in almost all industries. Such growth has raised several impacts on the environment challenges. The paper discusses how technological growth can be matched with environmental sustainability. This research combines data from secondary sources of articles and primary research based on a survey from AI professionals to understand environmentally friendly ways of developing AI tools. The findings indicated high level of carbon footprint and energy consumption involved in conventional models of AI system. Certain key strategies identified include developing algorithms that are energy-efficient, employing data centers powered by renewable energy, and full life cycle analysis of AI systems. The study further illustrates some practical use of sustainable AI in resource management and climate change modelling illustrating potential of AI tools. This paper contributed to the literature by covering significant knowledge gap in environmental sustainability of AI tools and provided practical recommendations for policy development and future research. These findings are important for policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders.
