In-Depth Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy: Annemarie Dührssen and the Social Responsibility of Mental Health Clinicians
摘要
This chapter focuses on the development of psychodynamic psychotherapy in Germany after the II World War. Annemarie Dührssen applied psychodynamic principles to the treatment of various emotional and behavioral problems in children and adolescents, including psychosomatic conditions. She included the family in treatment and highlighted the importance of interpersonal, family and social factors in the development of emotional problems and in the treatment of those difficulties. She and her collaborators conducted a number of studies on the efficacy of psychotherapy for adults and children and adolescents. They were instrumental in convincing the national health system to provide psychotherapy for all who need it. One of the reasons was the well-being of the subjects involved, but also the alleviation of absenteeism and chronic health conditions associated with emotional and behavioral difficulties. These authors advocated the social involvement of mental health professionals in alleviating the difficult conditions in which many children live.
