Urban Heat Island (UHI) is a significant variable in climate and environmental studies. Urban greening and the development of green spaces, through modifications of roads and their ancillaries, can mitigate UHI effects. This study aims to develop a Planning Support Tool to evaluate opportunities for retrofitting roads and ancillaries in urban areas by enhancing urban greening to reduce UHI effects. To achieve this goal, the potential for developing green spaces was investigated across four case study suburbs in the Adelaide Metropolitan Area, Australia. In pursuit of this goal, traffic volumes, UHI hotspots, and Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) were analysed in ArcGIS 10.2 to prioritise the case studies for reconfiguring street spaces. The results revealed the potential benefits and applications of this technique in identifying opportunities to modify the urban road environment through increased urban greenery, supporting urban planners in creating more sustainable, climate-resilient environments.

摘要
