This conclusion provides a summary of the themes that emerged from the chapters in this volume with regards to diversity in visual representations of the past. They highlight the stereotypes that remain as well as ways to move forward. This chapter also acknowledges the difficulties in methodology when it comes to studying visual representations of the past. Visual media is represented by many categories, each with their own challenges, and there is a wide variety of societies to study across time and space. Therefore, diverse methodologies are also needed. Finally, the rise of Generative Artificial Intelligence and images that can be created with it pose even more challenges when it comes to the creation and dissemination of visual representations of the past.
