This chapter investigates the artistic process UUUUDUM—Unorthodox Uncontaminated Universe: Use, Develop and Unlock Music, hereafter referred to as [U], based on musical and theatrical performance, and mixed media, proposed by the OP Collective, founded by MOG Morgana Orsetta Ghini, Luca Lagash Saporiti Thomas Böhm and Paolo Grigolli. The present investigation is motivated by two primary factors. Firstly, it stems from the collaboration between the OP Collective and The Non-Humans’ Embassy in Favara (AG) for the development of [U]. Secondly, from a methodological point of view, it delves into insights on agency derived from the study of performance within the musical sphere. The work done by [U] proposes to amplify the effects of natural heritage agency, so as to conceptually transform it from an object of protection to a cultural agent. Through sculptural and musical artistic performances, strategies for the enhancement of large portions of the landscape are proposed. The enhancement of their agency potential, primarily through musical practices (exploring sense via listening to and recording sound objects), proposes an alternative ecological perspective characterized by a project-oriented approach. [U]’s work is made explicit in relation to the conceptual framework already explored with the Non-Humans’ Embassy, with further insights into the performing arts elaborated through the contribution of experimental music. This extended conceptual framework will be based on three cores. The first concerns musical experimentation, which will be presented as an interactive method for exploring the real. For it, some parallels between concepts related to the event and those derived from meaning will be exposed. The second core concerns listening, which will be described as a moment of composing the possible. The third core will offer some reflections on the concept of instrument and its ability to deepen the concept of agency. Finally, the synergy between [U] and NHE is framed in order to promote challenges and opportunities for Italian and European cultural centers.
