This paper presents a pilot study based on a novel approach to reasoning with generative artificial intelligence in which the user is conceptualized as Socrates and the generative AI as a Sophist. In his philosophy Socrates looked for objective truths, while the Sophists were promoting ideas of relativism and subjectivism. In the pilot study, 57 students tested the method as part of a basic logic course, acting as Socrates in dialogue with AI.

摘要

This paper presents a pilot study based on a novel approach to reasoning with generative artificial intelligence in which the user is conceptualized as Socrates and the generative AI as a Sophist. In his philosophy Socrates looked for objective truths, while the Sophists were promoting ideas of relativism and subjectivism. In the pilot study, 57 students tested the method as part of a basic logic course, acting as Socrates in dialogue with AI.
