The Impact of a Palliative Care Chatbot on Nurses’ Self-Efficacy
摘要
This study aims to enhance palliative care education for nursing staff, particularly in acute and critical care settings, through the development and use of a palliative care chatbot. In Taiwan, cancer is the leading cause of death, with nurses frequently encountering terminal cancer patients in various specialties. However, many nurses lack specialized palliative care training, particularly in managing complex symptoms such as pain, dyspnea, and cancer-related fatigue. This gap in knowledge can negatively impact patient care. The chatbot offers interactive learning modules on cancer pain management, dyspnea care, and cancer fatigue, and uses quizzes and video explanations to reinforce knowledge. The study involved 59 nursing staff from a regional hospital and assessed their self-efficacy in palliative care before and after using the chatbot. Results indicated a significant increase in self-efficacy, demonstrating the effectiveness of digital tools in enhancing nurses’ confidence and competence in palliative care. This study underscores the potential of chatbots to support ongoing professional development in complex areas such as palliative care.
