AI Tools for English Proficiency Test Preparation: A Research Review
摘要
This study systematically reviews the application of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in language learning, with a focus on preparing students for standardized English proficiency tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, and TOEIC. Following the PRISMA framework, 24 studies published between 2018 and December, 2024 were selected and analyzed. The review examines four key aspects: (1) AI tools and the language skills they target, (2) AI integration in test preparation, (3) key findings, and (4) reported challenges. The results indicate that AI tools such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Andy are widely utilized for enhancing writing and speaking skills, while applications for listening and reading remain underexplored. AI provided personalized real-time feedback, enhancing style and phrasing, assisting with grammar, spelling, and vocabulary, fostering learner autonomy, guiding revisions, and assessing. Findings show that AI tools effectively enhance English proficiency by improving listening, speaking, writing, and grammar skills, boosting test performance, fostering learner confidence, and alleviating anxiety. Several challenges were also reported, including accessibility barriers, technological limitations, and a lack of research on diverse learner contexts. The study highlights the need for integrated AI solutions that support comprehensive language skill development.
