摘要
The implication of Artificial Intelligence in research has significantly enhanced the efficiency of scientific research. However, it has also led to increase in academic misconduct, including data falsification and text plagiarism. The unethical use of AI in research publications is a threat for the research integrity and has becomes a hindrance to scientific progress. The present study aims to consolidate the existing literature on this subject area by analyzing publication trends over the time, most prolific authors, institutions, countries, collaboration patterns, document types, and citation patterns. To fulfil the objectives of the study a bibliometric analysis was conducted on 972 publications that were listed in the Scopus database. The first publication related to AI’s role in identifying plagiarism dates back to 1980 and it was presented at a conference. The highest number of publications were recorded in the year 2023 accounting the highest number of citations. V. Wiwanitkit was identified as the most prolific author in this field. This study area mainly covered in the subject domains of computer science, medicine, and social sciences, with articles and conference papers as the predominant document types. The United States was the leading contributor to this area of research. The outcomes of this study may be useful to all stakeholders with an interest in this research domain.
