Customer Awareness and Factors Affecting CBDC Adoption in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh: A Study on RBI's Digital Rupee in India
摘要
This research delves into the level of understanding and the attitude of the customers towards the retail CBDC of the Reserve Bank of India in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The primary and secondary sources were used for data collection by means of a structured questionnaire which was distributed via WhatsApp and E-mail means. Out of 368 responses received, 360 were selected for analysis ensuring that the sampling method of convenience provided a wide range of variation. Descriptive statistics were used to investigate the demographic characteristics’ distributions while the relationships between the variables were tested using Chi-Square tests. It was found out that 82.5% of the respondents do not know about CBDC and level of education has a significant impact with the degree of awareness. Some factors including age, gender, and occupation were however not significant. Although more people are embracing the use of digital payments, the use of CBDC was rather low attributable to security issues and low usage push from the banks. The study recommends the launching of education programs, increasing the active role of banks, and bettering the characteristics of the CBDC.
