This chapter addresses issues that go beyond the intermediate level. It begins by examining the spatial dimension of social phenomena, which presents a particular complexity in that spatial entities concretely combine spheres of activity that cannot be dissociated as easily as in thematic studies. The same is true of the historical processes that follow. These processes are never confined to a specific sphere of activity. They also require us to take into account contingent situations and discontinuities that combine in various ways with more continuous trends. Finally, I endeavor to conceptualize more massive social forms than those dealt with in previous chapters, by addressing generic modes of coordination (capitalism, for example) and societies, or even “the” society.

摘要
