Vegetation Indices for Analyzing Sugar Beet Hybrid Variations on Leached Chernozem in the Stavropol Upland

The experiment was conducted in the zone of unstable moisture on leached chernozem in the training and experimental farm in the South of Russia to study 18 lines of sugar beet hybrids (in six-fold repetition) on the dates: May 21, June 19, August 10, 2024 using a PolyPen RP 410 NIR spectroradiometer. The complex application of vegetation indices (PSSRa, PSSRb, PSSRa/PSSRb (authors’), SIPI, mSR705 and VOG1), which have their specific field in describing the physiological state of plants, made it possible to determine their significance at various stages of ontogenesis. For this purpose, similar deviations (maximum and minimum) of indices from average values were analyzed and hybrid lines were grouped according to the identity of indices. Analysis of variance was used to determine differences between and within variants of index variability (at a significance level of 0.05). Individual differences of linear sugar beet hybrids by all investigated vegetation indices were grouped on the basis of application of the method of complete linkage (Euclidean distance). As a consequence, it became possible to determine numerical homogeneity through the determination of the geometric distance between variants. And in general, divide into groups based on distance or proximity. And also to highlight maximum and minimum intergroup differences at different periods of plant development. In general, it is reasonable to apply in practice in breeding numerical characteristics describing the traits of linear hybrids of sugar beet for a wide range of solutions to the set problems.
