In line with a general increase in international television shows dedicated to teenagers, the Italian public broadcaster Rai has recently demonstrated a renewed interest in the teen genre, especially visible in Rai Fiction products destined for the RaiPlay free streaming platform. RaiPlay teen series are interesting subjects of analysis for two main reasons: first, the increasing number of content targeted towards teenagers may win back younger audiences, notoriously alienated from Rai; second, this phenomenon seems connected to Rai’s effort to diversify its offerings between traditional TV and RaiPlay, which also serves as a destination for exclusively online shows, such as Nudes (2021–2024) and Mental (2020). This chapter explores Rai teen series developed for RaiPlay which appear to be the preferred destination for more daring, experimental content that usually focus on teens’ vulnerability, marginalisation, and other personal issues.
