Generation 56k: Nostalgia as a Way to Convergence Media Practices

Generazione 56k/Generation 56k (2021) can be considered an Italian example of what Simon Reynolds calls “retromania.” This contribution outlines the role of nostalgia in the creation of the story world: the imagery linked to the beginning of the new millennium (the Internet 56k), nourished today by online participation, becomes the collective memory of an entire generation, which is always on the verge of adult life. Through this perspective, Generazione 56k seems to be an unusual coming-of-age series addressing a specific audience of adults.
