Wetlands are engines of the earth as they supply provide ecological, economic and cultural benefits. However, these invaluable landscapes are increasingly threatened by expanding human footprint, droughts as well as the changing climate change. This chapter provides a comprehensive documentation of wetlands status, highlighting the profound impacts of alterations in precipitation and temperature patterns, sea level rise, and carbon dynamics on these ecosystems. The chapter further provides an overview of the diverse and complex challenges faced by wetlands and reflects on possible adaptive and mitigation strategies that contribute to sound environmental performance. It is clear that, wetlands are under threat from human activities, which calls for the need to harness the potential of modern technology for instance remote sensing. By understanding and addressing climate change impacts, efforts to preserve wetlands and their vital functions for future generations will be put in place to prevent further degradation. Lastly, the chapter provides recommendation to proffer solutions that counteract the emerging threats to enhance ecosystem resilience.

摘要
