Humor and Storytelling Among Computer Crime Investigators

In this chapter considers the role of storytellingstorytelling and humor among computer crime investigators, specifically those working in Internet Crimes Against Children (ICACInternet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)) cases. In this chapter, we investigate the unique cultural components of dark and gallows humor for officers in computer crime units and how humor and storytelling is used as a coping mechanism, to generate in-group solidarity, to shape the perceptions of criminal offenders, and as a key aspect for how computer crime officers relate to the policing occupation writ large.
