This concluding chapter of the edited volume consolidates how we have charted the rapid digital and AI-mediated transformations that increasingly shape teaching and learning in the digital era, examining the tensions and possibilities that emerged at the intersection of technology, policy, and pedagogy. The volume has explored the influence of neoliberalism, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the expansion of digital learning platforms, highlighting the paradoxes these created for emancipatory education. The chapters have argued that education needed to be boundaryless, inclusive, and collaborative, rooted in critical pedagogy and Freirean approaches that empowered learners to question, resist oppression, and cultivate critical consciousness. Yet neoliberal logics, which commodified students learning experiences and knowledge curricular, while privileging market-driven disciplines, is positioned as posing major challenges to these ideals. The contributions emphasised the university educators’ role in reclaiming education as a public good, fostering intellectual, civic, and moral development beyond economic utility. While recognising the opportunities of AI to expand access and personalisation, the volume also addressed concerns over bias, equity, and surveillance. Collectively, this conclusion outlines how the volume has offered a critique of current trajectories and advanced a vision for a more equitable, empowering, and transformative educational future.
