Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is essential to perform on any structure and the concept of SHM initially in the modern recorded history began from UK in the late 19th century due to a dam, but it gained popularity in the late 20th century. However, the structural failures and neglect of the structures has been the case in many countries which becomes the source of disaster later on. However, in the recent years due to the advancement of AI technology, the traditional SHM was modified to Smart Structural Health Monitoring (SSHM), where real-time analysis of data, decision-making and the whole process becomes faster than traditional SHM. This paper will focus on Smart SHM which is powered by AI technology is needed to make the structures durable and the way timely maintenance could avoid negligence to avoid the occurrence of disasters. Then, applications and implementation Smart SHM will be discussed apart from the current gaps in the literature. Further, graphical analysis will be done on the available data from various sources to understand the market as well as the future of Smart SHM.
