Sustainable Finance and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-2030)
摘要
The chapter highlighted the pivotal role that sustainable finance plays in the realization of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. The SDGs, which include 17 very interlinked global goals, are a universal framework to help combat the most unprecedented challenges facing the world, such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation, by 2030. In its entirety, sustainable finance incorporates ESG criteria in financial decision-making to mobilize capital for projects with positive social and environmental outcomes. This is the chapter about how sustainable finance converges with the SDGs, using financial instruments and strategies containing Green Bonds, Social Bonds, and Sustainability Linked Loans, among others. It shall go into the nuances of a proper understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals, historical background on the adoption of these goals, and their interlinkages among the goals. It will also focus on the mechanisms by which sustainable finance can deliver on the SDGs, covering the contribution of different players—such as governments, the private sector, and NGOs. Where possible, it will also present successful project and initiative cases that have been effectively financed to lend support to the SDGs, complete with impact assessments and lessons learned. The indicators and metrics in this chapter address sustainable finance, measure the standards and frameworks in reporting, and the challenges in measurement and transparency. It identifies the barriers to financing SDG-related projects, opportunities for innovation and growth, and provides recommendations for policies that create enabling environments.
