Awareness of Maritime Piracy in the Sulu Sea Among Nautical Students
摘要
Piracy and maritime terrorism are global threats to maritime security, with a long history of occurrence across the world. In particular, the Sulu Sea region has been impacted by piracy activities, including the Abu Sayyaf attack on the Sabah area. This attack has contributed to increased piracy cases in the Sulu Sea. The objective of this research is to provide nautical students with knowledge and awareness of the requirements that must be met in the event of a piracy attack by identifying the factors that lead to pirate attacks on vessels in the Sulu Sea and determining the type of ships that are most commonly targeted. The research method includes a literature review and questionnaire, and the data will be analyzed using descriptive analysis, SPSS, and judgment. Although piracy attacks have decreased in recent years, the possibility of future attacks cannot be ruled out, as the Abu Sayyaf Group remains at large. The findings of this research will contribute to reducing piracy attacks in the future near the Sulu Sea. This research will provide valuable information to nautical students and equip them with the knowledge and requirements needed to respond to piracy attacks.
