World Englishes in the Twenty-First Century: A Transmedia Turn?
摘要
This chapter provides a synthesis of the traditional accounts and current transmedia narratives through which scholars and speakers of English view World Englishes across contexts and modalities. It elaborates on a transmedia turn to capture the increasing relevance of Internet-based digital discourse in developing World Englishes. What sets a transmedia approach apart from other approaches in World Englishes is its openness to, and unification of, complementary methods and theories from a diverse range of fields. This chapter also speculates on the future of world Englishes, inviting the reader to reflect on contentious issues of developing World Englishes in a transmedia world.
