This chapter explores the impact of the World Englishes paradigm on English teaching. While Standard English narratives still hold sway in educational contexts throughout the world, a paradigm shift is underway in which scholars and educators have begun to question these narratives. This chapter reviews the paradigm shift in teaching World Englishes and addresses key questions and challenges, e.g. how World Englishes-informed teachers might better approach “unequal Englishes” in the classroom, and how they might better serve so-called “disadvantaged learners”, in line with a transmedia approach to teaching English, which is developed throughout the book.
