Convergence of Different Disciplines in the Recovery and New Destination of an Ancient Iron Mine: A Case Study
摘要
Multidisciplinarity may take many forms, depending on what it deals with. This chapter utilises a concrete case—the restoration of a dismissed mine to turn it into an underground museum of mining history—to illustrate how many disciplines can converge and contribute to define the characteristics and quality of a project. The case study highlights how a project that would at first glance appear to be purely technical benefits from the interfaces with history, literature, and also the legends and traditions of the location. The contributions of each individual discipline are first analysed individually, and then the synergies of each possible pair of disciplines are outlined. It is concluded that multidisciplinarity can be extremely fruitful to enhance the efficiency and quality of a project, and also its articulation and scope.
