Teachers' Time (I): Integrating Sustainability and Technology into Teaching Time
摘要
The successful integration of sustainability and technology into schools is contingent on effective time management, as traditional schedules are often unable to adapt to modern demands. While digital tools such as ICT enhance efficiency and student engagement, challenges arise from the inconsistent use of these tools by teachers and the complexity of new technologies (for example, unreliable sustainability information via social media). Schools are facing a need to maintain consistent teaching hours while also dealing with increased workloads, often resulting from larger class sizes and expanded curricula. Investments in digital infrastructure and green initiatives are increasing, yet success depends on proactive teachers and adaptive leadership. Local projects led by school leaders, supported by institutional frameworks, are critical for embedding the twin transition. Strategies such as allocating permanent classrooms to teachers, optimising timetables, and exploring four-day weeks have shown promise. However, the shift towards administrative time accounting in education risks oversimplifying complex transitions. It is therefore vital to emphasise the need for holistic, culturally responsive approaches to sustainably balance time, resources, and educational goals.
